Artist Statement

During my process of developing an art piece, I strive to capture allurement and magic, whether it be in a portrait, a landscape, or a still life. It is impossible to fully separate the artist from the art; my drawings and paintings are a reflection of my curiosity and need to connect with the beauty in this world, even if it is simply capturing a moment with a slice of pie or a smiling puppy.

In my landscapes and still life paintings, I get lost in the magic of the environment. The scenes often depict a sense of calm or maybe provoke a happy memory, and perhaps illustrating a small but fantastic moment of childlike wonder. In a world that can be overwhelmingly chaotic at times, I like to paint scenes that are an invitation to escape into a peaceful space.

Portraiture is a very intimate undertaking for me. My goal is to not only portray the person or animal, but capture their true essence in that moment.  Each portrait illustrates vulnerability and strength, woven together to capture what draws me to the subject; it is this exploration of the less apparent qualities that shape us which drives my work.

I am constantly inspired by the Impressionist era of painting and drawing. The undefined brushstrokes create an ethereal, dreamlike quality, and remind me that my work is purely of my memory and my perspective. My hope is to take something familiar and render it in a way that people haven't seen it before. The only thing I can do is paint and draw what I find inspiring. With that goal in mind, I strive to bring beauty and a sense of curiosity to everyone who sees my art.
